I bought this one and had it shipped to me here in Hungary, and it just fills me with delight to go about and play for people! Tough plastic, delightful sound, remarkable design, thank God for the STL people!!M
STL Ocarina truly has the best 100% top quality ocarinas ever. Also very good customer service. The first plastic ocarina I got on here had a bunch of pretty deep scuff marks for some reason, but right after contacting customer service and showing them the picture of all the scuff marks, they right away said they're sending a replacement the next day. So not only are their ocarinas top quality and affordable, I've also learned that STL Ocarina is a very trustworthy site. The same day I ordered this plastic one I also ordered different ocarina from this site that's in g major and no problems with that one at all.A
I found this site from YouTube, and bought this model as my first ocarina. It’s been a wonderful ocarina to learn on! The shipping was fast and the customer service is superb. I keep having to remind myself to slow down and not buy another one too quickly. My only complaint is that I have to blow out moisture after playing for a few minutes, but I think that’s quite standard for a plastic instrument. Overall though, perfect score!D
I bought two of these on Wednesday and had them by Friday afternoon. I did select the USPS PRIORITY MAIL option at checkout. The ocarinas are exactly as described and arrived in excellent condition.
My experience level with ocarinas is effectively nil. This is the first one I've owned. I played clarinet in school and and marching band, both more years ago than I'll cop to here. Needless to say my breath control is rusty at best, but it's all coming back to me now.The only complaint I have, and it has nothing to do with the product and everything to do with online shopping. I've got very big hands with correspondingly large fingers. I have a heck of a time fingering quickly because I have to squeeze my fingers together to cover the holes.
At least I don't squeal like I did learning the clarinet.B
This was my first ocarina and it is of good quality. I had no problem learning on it, and it sounds great and plays well.
The main problem is that the high notes can be somewhat airy, even if using the acute bend technique. I often find myself using a bit too much breath pressure on the high notes just to make the sound clearer, causing the notes to play sharp, but if I pay attention to the pitch, I can avoid this.
Also, if you're wondering why the ocarina looks tiny in the picture, it's just because the tone holes are pretty big for a Tenor C ocarina. This might feel weird for some players, and some people will need to get accustomed to covering the holes completely. However, having learned on this ocarina, this never bothered me despite me having pretty small fingers.
Overall, I love this ocarina and would recommend it for beginners or even more experienced players who just want to have a plastic tenor they can bring with them everywhere. I've had several people compliment its sound, and I can't really disagree. I've compared this ocarina side-by-side to the Night By Noble equivalent, which I've seen being universally praised across the ocarina community. While the Night's smaller holes made it a bit easier to play and the high notes were a bit less airy, the STL's quality was very comparable. Plus, the STL is $14 cheaper and doesn't look like a bent blow dryer. Overall, this is a good ocarina for a great price.
