I purchased the plastic ocarina to have something durable for travel and camping. I chose black to take advantage of some brass and gold decals I ad laying around. The ocarina plays great and I have no problems hitting all the notes. I thing I'll buy a white plastic one next and do some more customizing.file:///home/andy/Desktop/100_0223.JPG
So I ordered the calming green and expected some sort of a mint, but it’s definitely more of an emerald. More of a true green. The picture makes it look different, and honestly I wish I would have gotten literally any other color. This color is kind of repulsive to me and seems out of place on ocarina unless true green is your absolute favorite color. I also got the purple for a kid I watch and it was also darker, but still represented the picture well. No complaints with that one.
But now that I got that off my chest, the sound is great. It does squeak if you blow too hard, so consider that when buying for children. It’s not a loud clarinet squeak by any means, it’s an airy one that will get your dogs up.
I found the shape of the ocarina very easy to transition to. My favorite ocarina is a very flat-topped one (the Nebula) and compared to my last new ocarina which was the very round ceramic Zelda 12-hole, I could play this ocarina right off the bat without fumbling. The size is comfortable and it is very light. It came with a dark blue, almost purple neck strap that doesn’t really go with the color of the green ocarina at all, but I can easily replace it with something else and I’m glad I can wear it around. I have the chubby hands and fingers of an oversized toddler and the Zelda ceramic was a bit on the small side for me, but this ocarina was a good size for my hands and fingers. I’m reconsidering the idea of giving the purple one to the kid I watch for her birthday because the holes might be a little big for her.
The range on the ocarina is great and it easily hits every note. The high notes are a tad airy, but that is to be expected of plastic. The tone is not the deep, round sound you typically get with a longer ceramic ocarina but not quite the annoying twang of a rounder one either. It’s a happy middle, and I enjoy it.
Off to paint this Elphaba-looking thing black.A

I purchased this for my son to replace his in school music class during our state's school shut down and he fell in love with it so quickly! It is very sturdy and has the same tone quality as my higher priced ocarina. This is a wonderful instrument for an introduction and will last.
