I had been looking for a bass plastic ocarina and the STL Bass C Plastic Ocarina has been my choice after having done some research.
I am 100% satisfied with its beautiful voice, tuning, great and precise articulation, playability and beauty (it is thoroughly polished and there are no molding lines on its surface at all).
Have actually ordered two of them, one is still on its way as I write this review, because I am going to use them in my musical teaching activities. Anyway, the one which was sent using a fast shipping method is already here and its deep warm voice.has been filling our days with calm and delight.
A great choice, indeed.A
I live in Poland where ocarinas are rather exotic instruments. It's hard to buy good quality ocarinas at all in my country. I made a few clay ocarinas on my own including 10-hole bass. But I wanted to compare them with commercially available instruments. I ordered and the ocarina was sent immediately by STL. However, if you are ordering to Poland, if possible, take more expensive but faster shipping than DHL Global Mail (in my case delivery took more than 1 month) or you must be patient. The ocarina itself is very nice. Looks beautiful and low notes are so deep. I also took it becouse to do not disturb the other people around (alto can be much more annoying). The only thing with plastic ocarinas is water condensing in a windway. This is probably normal for all plastic ocarinas. I have 4 plastic ocarinas now and all of them collect water. Thus, after some playing especially high notes become unstable. However, when you blow harder in windway, you can partially remove water. The ocarina is light when compared to my clay ocarina so my hands are not tired so fast. I highly recommend this ocarina. The quality of the ocarina for its price is excellent. Now I have 2 ocarinas from STL also plan to buy other ocarinas. Thank you STL Ocarina!M
Let me start off by saying that this is now the quietest ocarina I own. This may be a downside for some people, but when I'm used to having to worry about disturbing people, I'm very glad I now have an ocarina that's both mellow in sound and relatively quiet that I can play at odd hours.
This ocarina was a little smaller than I expected, a few inches short of my Passacaglia bass (which I love and STL needs to bring back, hint hint), but it has a really nice, consistent tone and the high notes are actually less airy than the high notes on the plastic triple. There's a very, very slight... almost like a hum with every note, but I doubt anyone but me can hear it and it's easily drowned out on all except the lowest notes. Also, because it's fairly compact, it takes quite a bit less breath than the Passacaglia. Overall, for being plastic and only $60.00, I couldn't recommend this ocarina more. I had no idea plastic could sound so good.
(The one negative comment I have about this ocarina is that it costs $5 more--$65--for the one with the triforce printed on it for some reason. I can't imagine it actually costs that much more to stamp it on there.)
