  • This instrument is a brand new bass ocarina made out of purple clay. It is about 9 inches long, accurately tune in the key of C Major, with a pitch range of almost three octaves (19 notes from C4 to G6). It also has the capability of playing sharps and flats.

    This ocarina has a very deep, resonant sound.

    What is Purple Clay?

    Purple Clay, also known as ( Zisha or Purple Sand ), is a rare natural mineral resource found only in the region of Yixing, China. It is comprised of clay and other minerals such as quartz. Although named "purple clay" it is usually rose-brown in color, although some other colors exist. Because of its unique blend of minerals, purple clay is more durable than other clays once it has been fired. It is also more porous. As a result, ocarinas made of purple clay actually improve with time. As the clay absorbs the moisture created by playing, the clay vibrates differently and becomes more resonant.

    Definitely a large ocarina

    It came on time and I picked it up. Love the case that comes with it and all the booklets! I have a long way to be good, but gotta start somewhere. Thanks STL Ocarina!

    I love it

    This is my first purple clay ocarina and I was very satisfied. Love the resonance of the first octave. The other octaves sound amazing as well. The included carry case makes it nice to store. The only drawback is no sub holes so you cant play the lower notes and you have to use forked fingerings to achieve sharps and flats. It does not impact the playing in my opinion just a few less holes to worry about covering up. In short it was worth every penny I spent.

    Purple Clay Triple Bass Beast

    As wonderful as I thought it would be. Nicely in tune, well matched trio with practice. There is a learning curve with this instrument, as finger spacing is wide, plus it’s quite heavy to support for long. The hard case is a great addition to the package. No finger chart was available for this instrument, however correct fingering was not too hard to figure out. Great and appreciated addition to my collection.

    Smooth, mellow sound, easy to play. A little on the heavy side. No neck-strap. Also lacks sharp/flat holes on the bass chamber. Easy to learn and adapt to, though, so that is not a hindrance. Would recommend to any passionate ocarina player, and especially would recommend to a professional.
