The Double Ocarina in C Major was an excellent gift, and I'm very happy to play it as much as possible on a daily and consistent basis. It resonates very well, and is much louder than may at first be expected. It's positives far exceed it's negatives, especially in terms of it's general aesthetics and quality of sound. Each hole requires a slightly different "tdu" sound, a notably different amount of breath for pitch, and a different throat wiggle for jazzy vibrato - all of which is expected playing an Ocarina.
Desired improvements are many, but it should be clarified that they are minor and are understandable given the items price range. Unwanted and heavy strain on the left pinky finger is alleviated by ensuring good posture. Chambers do not match in precise direction, but you learn to angle your mouth. Smaller finger holes are difficult to feel, but you grow accustomed (Just a little bevel would do wonderfully here).
What I personally treasure most about it's aesthetics is that it doesn't look like a flashy toy, and sure enough it isn't. Most people are very complimentary about it and truly find it very cool. The blue gradient looks wonderful, and provides that Zelda feel without screaming I LOVE ZELDA. Unfortunately paint was inconsistently sprayed in some of the holes; Some are blue, when they were clearly trying to make the inside white. This is unfortunate, and upon inspection you'll quickly find there are splotches of blue spray paint coating it's white interior (I don't believe the spray impacts the sound.) The image as of now shows a small AC on top, but another large TNG was printed below it in gold which was deceivingly not in the image. This would be more welcome if it was on the back as a signature instead of a brand advertisement.
Rarely do I feel the need to possess two of something, so I would not buy another of this particular model, but would purchase from this company and website again. When change occurs, I'll likely invest in what appea...W
So I just received my double ocarina it only took 3 days which was awesome the sound quality is amazing the coloring is so much more vivid than the picture shows so that was also awesome and the precision on everything is just sublime I bought an ocarina on eBay and it played ok but the highest notes squeaked really bad and there were imperfections on the interior and a bubble just inside one of the holes which affects the sound quality with this double ocarina however that are no imperfections no bubbles and no squeaky notes the only thing I can say negatively and it's not even related to the actual ocarina is that the cord for the ocarina should be made of a thicker material like leather because if you carry your ocarina proudly like me the cord will wear out quickly I know because the cord for my 12 hole ocarina wore out in less than a month. Other than the cord absolute perfection.E
I got this for christmas, and i immediatly loved it. The shape where the left hand goes was hard to get used to at first, because it's bulbous, but after getting used to it my other ocarinas are the ones that feel odd. The sound is incredible and i love the color.M
I bought this ocarina a few weeks ago after I started with the plastic Zelda double ocarina, because I wanted to see how a clay ocarina would sound. The sound of this ocarina is rich and full, very beautiful. The notes of the larger ocarina are loud, the sound of the smaller ocarina is very clean, but not as loud.
Although I like this ocarina very much I found a few things I don't like about it.
- Its weight: it is very heavy, about 380 g, which is almost double the weight of the double plastic ocarina. As I am used to the weight of the plastic ocarina, my hands started aching after a short time. Sometimes my training sessions go for hours and with the plastic ocarina I had no problems.
- the hole for the neck string is in the front, on the mouthpiece, and I found that the string often tangles with the left thumb and comes between the hole and the thumb. I would have liked the string to be attached at the end of the ocarina... I overcame this point by turning the ocarina so the strings cross and don't interfere so much.
- the position of the finger holes of the larger ocarina: If you have long fingers, the left pinkie and the right middle finger interfere with each other when you play the low B, because the holes are opposite each other. On the plastic and clay Zelda double ocarina the hole rows are more offset towards each other and the holes for the low notes are free, so there it is much easier to play the low B, Bb and A.
