12 Hole Tenor Ocarina with Zelda Songbook

12 Hole Tenor Ocarina with Zelda Songbook

I have been enjoying learning the basics of the ocarina through the joy of being able to play my favorite Legend of Zelda games’ music. Also looking forward to using it with the new Switch 2 remake of OoT

Still learning but seems to work just fine

I, like many people bought into the nostalgia but didn't want to spend much and bought a cheap Amazon seller's copy of one of these ocarina's and yeah, it looked nice and most notes play well, but when you get into the highest 2-3 notes it gets really bad and the only way you can play most of those high notes on my knockoff ocarina is to greatly reduce the amount of air you push through it, but even then it's so faint and light you can barely hear it especially over the airy sound. I've tried 3 different methods to make it better, but none worked for my cheap knockoff.

I do agree that the STL could have been better shown in the image, the glare on the picture obscure's it and I didn't know it was there till I got my ocarina. I seen someone else had metioned and they had the same feeling I did about it could've been better placed maybe around the mouth piece or on the bottom or the back, it makes it less appealing as a authentic looking piece. Color is great, but better placement of the STL would've made this a 5 star.

Anyways, I greatly appreciate the time and effort that STL put in to my new favorite ocarina that I got with this purchase. STL actually have taken the time to get the production of each of their ocarina's done correctly so that they are pitch perfect and capable of actually playing the whole octave and not just most of the octave.

As for the Songbook I got, it's beautiful and for a beginner in music it would be helpful for this instrument having the fingerings. However, I would challenge STL to consider putting in the actual sheet music for each song and have the fingerings just above each line, kind of alternating fingering and sheet music. Now, I didn't look through the song book from cover to cover, but you could have an additional page or two at the front covering the basics of reading sheet music as well. Like how long each note type is supposed to be held, and maybe a crash course list of terms and meanings, like
pp = pianissimo or to play lightly
p = piano or to play softly
f = forte or to play loudly
ff = fortissimo or to play very loudly
but I feel like having the alternating sheet music and fingerings would be a great start to help beginners in transitioning from learing the fingerings and commiting which note is where on the ocatves that way people coming in to musical instruments can learn to play sheet music with practice and then they can elevate their playing and move on to other songs and grow as a musician.
