What is Purple Clay?
Purple Clay, also known as ( Zisha or Purple Sand ), is a rare natural mineral resource found only in the region of Yixing, China. It is comprised of clay and other minerals such as quartz. Although named "purple clay" it is usually rose-brown in color, although some other colors exist. Because of its unique blend of minerals, purple clay is more durable than other clays once it has been fired. It is also more porous. As a result, ocarinas made of purple clay actually improve with time. As the clay absorbs the moisture created by playing, the clay vibrates differently and becomes more resonant.
This is my first triple chamber ocarina and it did not disappoint. A bit of a learning curve for me as I'm transitioning over to single chamber, but the quality is superb. Have been a life long buyer of STL Ocarinas and will continue to support them. You can check out my ocarina videos on YouTube over at OcarinaCowT
I've bought several STL ocarinas over the years: The version 1 plastic, the Passacaglia, the Chameleon, the version 2 plastic, the plastic triple, and this puts them all to shame. It's the most responsive, angelic, warm, reliable ocarina in my collection. It's wonderfully in tune, expertly crafted, beautiful, easy to play, the tenor is powerful, the alto is warm and the soprano cuts through the air like a golden whistle. I love this ocarina, and I couldn't ask for more.
Comes with a really cool box too. Highly recommend for professionals, and ocarina enthusiasts who are looking for a crowning jewel to their collection.T

How could I begin... I don't know! This ocarina is just wonderful!
- The look is very cool and different each time. The mineral is not the same all the time. So your ocarina may be brown, or more red with white or brown stripes! That's pretty cool! :) Mine is very brown with grey stripes! And you may notice that the ocarina becomes darker near the hole: Your finger with their heat alter the color.
- The grip now. The grip is awesome! The switch between the chambers is very easy even though the ocarina dries your lips because, on a few parts, it's not varnished. I must tell you to be careful though. There is no neck strap so take care of it! (You can put your own neck strap, there's a hole for that ;) )
- The touch is very particular. In fact, the ocarina is varnished on some parts but there are still parts that are not varnished so the touch change through the ocarina! This is pretty interesting!
- The sound now... Oh yes the sound! The most important part!
The sound is very pure! I mean, it looks so easy to play this ocarina. The D and D#/Eb are pure, and, I know, these notes aren't always very sweet and pure! But on this ocarina, it's different!
All the notes has a sweet and pure sound (except for the highest notes of course, the sound is very strong). The highest notes needs a little blow, so the vibrato is very easy to do!
I just have something to say. The E and the F of the second chamber produce a very low sound, the notes is like retained in the ocarina. So if you want to record with this ocarina, you might meet this problem.
I'll never recommend this ocarina for beginner! You can buy this ocarina only if you are completely crazy about it and you have a real goal like playing orchestra or rearrange music! :)
