Being able to play two octaves opens up so many options for songs! I'm still getting used to the mouthpiece, but it's very fun. The sound can't be beat either. The tone is clear on ALL notes, which is fabulous! It closely resembles the ocarina from Zelda in looks making it even better. The finish is beautiful! I would highly recommend this and will be buying from STL Ocarina again in the future. Thank you!M
I got this for my wife as a Christmas gift. We are both musically trained bassoonists, so I thought it would be a nice new hobby. We are familiar with and like the Zelda series. She is really liking figuring out a new, light, small, portable instrument, and we both think that the double chamber with the extra upper range gives it an edge over other common 12-hole ocarinas. We may try a bassoon and ocarina duet soon. Its tuning is pretty good, and is good for Christmas carols/songs, scales, and game soundtracks (particularly Zelda). It did come with the instrument, neck strap, fingering chart and song book. Also, the introductory videos supplied from STL were great for us who had a musical background, but were new to the ocarina (single or double chamber). If you're already musical, you can probably handle the double chamber fine instead of starting with a 6-hole or 12-hole single chamber. Lastly, we were pleased with the aesthetics of the deep blue paint, silver band, and Triforce logo.B
I'm a saxophone player, I mostly play at church, and we don't have a flutist, so alas I'm able to fill that spot with the ocarina because I'm not very good on the flute🙃.
I really wasn't expecting too much out of this double ocarina mainly because I thought it was just going to be another cheaply made Zelda ocarina. By far I was wrong,, this is way more than a zelda themed double ocarina...
Main reason I purchased was because I was looking for a blue double ocarina that wasn't too expensive. I really like the deep blue color they went with, nice and calming. After getting the ocarina in, I've now had a few weeks to really play and to give an over all, somewhat knowledgeable feedback on this ocarina.
First off, this is not an ordinary ocarina by any means, every single note plays clearly, and with clarity. Even the high notes sound great, it is hard to make a double ocarina that has great sounding low notes and high notes, usually it's one or the other, but this one sounds great on low notes and high notes. Cuddos to being able to pull that off on a mass produced ocarina. I can really get a lot of expression out of every note as well. I can play loud or soft. I never heard the ocarina squelch on any of the notes or go flat. The chamber balance is beyond perfect, it reminds me of a double I bought from Italy years ago. Having a chamber balance this perfect on a mass produced ocarina is unheard of. Someone had told me that the STL double zelda probably has one of the best chamber balances of any double out there, I agree. The ergonomics of this ocarina are pretty good for the shape of it. It feels natural, and the holes have a tactile feel. The subhole on the second chamber was slightly hard to use, but with practice, I've managed to use it without any issues. That's another thing, the subholes on this ocarina are responsive. I've played some very expensive ocarinas that don't sound this good.
Overall I have nothing negative to say about it, all positives here. My expectations at this price point were not very high, but this STL double far excels beyond what I thought I'd be getting. I'm thinking about getting another one so my student can have a nice double to carry in his sax bag😁. Us saxophone players have a hard time with the flute😅, glad we have little magical clay flutes to fix that problem with.
I hope STL keeps making this one, it's perfect in every way. The color, texture, sound/ voicing, price are all perfect😀A
Great presentation, bountiful sound i recommendedA
Incredible! Even though I’m so bad at it right now, the sound quality makes me want to keep practicing!
