I'm a complete noob at this so maybe I just need practice or something. The ocarina itself seems sturdy. The Zelda book is great because it shows fingerings (I had also ordered the Final Fantasy songbook but it doesn't show fingerings it shows numbers and symbols, and right now that's all gobbledy gook to me). So the Zelda book is nice. I haven't watched the free videos sent by email yet and I probably should soon.
There are a few things that I don't like (and again, it's probably me being a noob):
1. I think the holes are a little too big as it is sometimes hard for me to fully cover some of them with my fingers.
2. Blowing into it with no holes covered sounds exactly the same as blowing into it with the just the top pinky hole covered (and some of the notes from the songbook show that you have to do both of those and sometimes consecutively). So my point about that is that since it sounds exactly the same to me and it's SUPER HARD to move between those two positions, why do they have any of the 'no holes covered' positions at all in the songbook?
3. I could be plugging along just fine and all of a sudden on my next note no air will move through the ocarina to make a musical sound. Like I'm trying to blow air into a container that is completely full and has no way for air to escape. And it will do the same thing on the next five tries I blow into it. I have to take my hands off it and then reposition and try to play a few solitary notes before it will go back to normal again. It's pretty random when that happens. Again, it could be because I'm a noob- maybe I need to have my lips a certain way to prevent that from ever happening.
All in all, I'm pretty happy for it being my beginner ocarina and I really like having the Zelda songbook.A
