What is Purple Clay?
Purple Clay, also known as ( Zisha or Purple Sand ), is a rare natural mineral resource found only in the region of Yixing, China. It is comprised of clay and other minerals such as quartz. Although named "purple clay" it is usually rose-brown in color, although some other colors exist. Because of its unique blend of minerals, purple clay is more durable than other clays once it has been fired. It is also more porous. As a result, ocarinas made of purple clay actually improve with time. As the clay absorbs the moisture created by playing, the clay vibrates differently and becomes more resonant.
I purchased this ocarina about 10 years ago and still play it today. It's a wonderful little instrument that fits very well in your hand and is highly pocketable. The sound is stunning, but can be a bit shrill in the upper registers. Regardless, having proper airflow and a good tone will still tame the upper registers.Y
It took me a long time to decide which ocarina I was going to get, but I went with this one in the end because I heard purple clay has a great sound. This ocarina is lovely. The sound is very clean. It plays in tune, and the instrument looks and feels nice. I did have some problems with my order, but the customer service was great and it was quickly solved.
