What is Purple Clay?
Purple Clay, also known as ( Zisha or Purple Sand ), is a rare natural mineral resource found only in the region of Yixing, China. It is comprised of clay and other minerals such as quartz. Although named "purple clay" it is usually rose-brown in color, although some other colors exist. Because of its unique blend of minerals, purple clay is more durable than other clays once it has been fired. It is also more porous. As a result, ocarinas made of purple clay actually improve with time. As the clay absorbs the moisture created by playing, the clay vibrates differently and becomes more resonant.

I’m learning the finger chart and playing my first song. Ode to joy. It’s a fun process.

Really love this purple clay soprano. The sound sampling I feel is an accurate reflection of the sound in person. This ocarina produces a darker tone and requires higher breath pressure overall, which I personally prefer in ocarinas. This ocarina is tuned very precisely and has an evenly rising breath curve. The highest note (high F) can be produced fully and clearly with proper breathing technique.
I have medium size hands with longer, slender fingers, and I find this ocarina comfortable to hold. I can easily cover all holes without air leakage, including the two subholes. This instrument looks and feels very professional---I highly recommend!J
After receiving my ocarina I couldn't help but play it for far too long. It's well tuned and I love the timbre of the instrument. It's a soprano so expect it to be loud and beautiful sounding.C
My 3 year old broke into my office and threw it after just a week, but from what I did play of it the sound and feel were the best of any Ocarina I've had before.
